Description & Requirements
Baker McKenzie Hong Kong is currently accepting applications from law students for the 2026 Clerkship Programme / 2028 Traineeship.
A World of Talent
The Clerkship Programme will give you real insight into what it is like to work at a premier global law firm and help you make an informed decision about your future. Our unique Hong Kong Clerkship Programme is designed to provide you with:
- an introduction to our Firm and the type of work we do, both in Hong Kong and globally;
- a rotation in two practice groups;
- a personally assigned partner and associate mentor in each rotation;
- an extensive programme of seminars, training sessions, and coaching opportunities;
- an opportunity to undertake a pro bono project;
- a commercial perspective to complement your legal education;
- plenty of social events and networking opportunities; and
- practical skills to help you further your career.
Our aim is to make your clerkship experience a genuine one. We will involve you in live work, invite you to attend client meetings, and provide opportunities to network with lawyers of all levels – Partners, Associates and Trainee Solicitors.
Exploring Beyond the Boundaries
Our programme is designed for people who enjoy a challenge and seek new opportunities; who are strong academically and practical in their approach; who like taking responsibility and getting things done; who express themselves confidently while staying open to new ideas; and who value a friendly and inclusive culture where making a difference to our local and global communities matters.
Ready to Explore Our World?
We invite you to meet our people, learn about our work, and discover the opportunities we offer.
To apply, candidates should be penultimate to final year law or final year non-law students, have strong academic results, commercial awareness, and good research skills. Fluency in Chinese (written and spoken) is preferred. Candidates must be firmly committed to establishing a legal career in Hong Kong.
The Baker McKenzie Clerkship Programme is the main pathway to securing a training contract with the Firm. Clerks who perform well during the Programme will be selected to join our Hong Kong office as Trainee Solicitors after completing their legal studies and the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL). Participation is therefore mandatory for those seeking a 2028 training contract.
