Description & Requirements

The Senior Business Development Coordinator (Tax and Employment & Compensation Practice Groups), Asia Pacific will provide business development, marketing, communication, and research support including execution of business development and client initiatives of the Asia Pacific (AP) Tax and Employment & Compensation Practice Groups. The role-holder will work closely with the Business Development Manager of the groups above and the AP Head of Markets & Practices. Provide support to other AP Practice/Sector Groups and work closely with the relevant AP Practice Group Leads and Communities on an as-needed basis. The individual will collaborate with colleagues in other relevant practice and industry groups market, regionally, and globally. Coordinate and oversee the delivery of BD and client-related tasks handled by the Manila/global delivery center in support of the practice group’s BD requirements. The role-holder may also be required to support ad-hoc projects or undertake additional responsibilities in line with team and business needs.


Main Responsibilities:


Business development:

  • Lead and support business development (BD) activities for the assigned practice groups and its subgroups, demonstrating commercial and strategic thinking and strong project management skills
  • Track and follow up rigorously for return on investment (ROI) of BD activities
  • Independently lead cross-border pitches, coordinating information from various offices and practice/industry teams
  • In conjunction with other practice and industry groups, support the development of key client relationships to enhance the Firm's credibility in the assigned practice areas, helping to drive profitable demand across the groups
  • Collaborate with client teams, where needed, to develop more work opportunities for the role's assigned practice groups, sharing and tracking client engagement activities promptly
  • Organize and coordinate client webinars, podcasts, roadshows, and seminars, partner attendance at regionally significant conferences and events, and speaking opportunities; Prepare and brief partners for client meetings and client visits; Provide onsite event support as may be needed
  • Lead the development of strategic research for assigned groups which will be useful in developing business plans and identifying opportunities with target clients 
  • Remain informed of relevant practice, market, client and industry news which can impact business opportunities and present such information to key stakeholders proactively and continuously


Marketing/communications:

  • Ensure the practice group's suite of marketing materials, including capabilities statements, pitch templates, deals lists, website content (internal and external) and press releases are up-to-date
  • Support the external promotion of regional Baker McKenzie-led initiatives and partner engagement in industry events such as sponsorship and speaking opportunities
  • Contribute to internal communications for the assigned practice groups, to assist in building a cohesive and well-informed practice 
  • Coordinate with the Marketing and Communications teams in maximizing various media channels and platforms in external profile-raising efforts


Practice Group BD materials, internal coordination and infrastructure management:

  • Contribute to improved quality, coordination, and consistency in the role's assigned practice groups including ensuring up-to-date infrastructure (BakerWorld, Bakermckenzie.com, capability statements, brochures, award and ranking summaries), updated budget reports, preparation and circulation of Practice Group (PG) Community meeting material (and other key practice meetings as required)
  • Quarterly update of capability statements, contact cards, placemats, deals lists, and other marketing materials across APAC and BakerWorld pages
  • Monthly update of budget status by tracking practice group budgets, including monitoring spend against activities and reallocation of costs
  • Create, maintain, and update Outlook distribution lists, client contact lists, and mailing lists
  • Work closely with the Admin and Business Services (ABS), Design Services and other Center-based teams to ensure quality and consistency in updating the relevant regional BD materials of the assigned practice groups
  • Lead on the preparations and drafting of regional rankings and awards submissions, working closely with the BD Manager, the Directories team (DAS) and in coordination with relevant lawyers, to ensure that core messaging, practitioner, and deal information are organized and collected following best practices and timelines
  • Assist BD Managers in preparing periodic overviews and analyses of group financial reports based on data collected from the AP Finance team
  • Regularly liaise with local BD teams in the region for the execution and delivery of various internal and external profile-raising efforts, update BD and client collateral, development of legal directory/awards submissions, and share best practices among others


Skills and experience:


  • A business degree or related degree (e.g. Marketing or Communications)
  • Relevant experience working in a legal or related professional services environment
  • A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills and experience
  • Proven experience in researching companies and industries
  • Proven experience in coordinating or managing events
  • Demonstrate business acumen and interest in market and industry trends
  • Strong word processing and spreadsheet skills (in particular, MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Excellent time management, organization, and prioritization skills
  • Prior experience working in a virtual team setting is preferred but not required


Reports to: Dual reporting to (1) BD Manager, AP Tax and Employment & Compensation, and (2) Onsite Manager, AP BD Manila Center
