Think Opportunity, Think Baker McKenzie!

We are excited to be recruiting for our Construction & Energy practice! We have an opportunity for a front end associate lawyer with 3 years' PQE to join our national practice, in Sydney

You will be working with our leading Partners, including Emanuel Confos and Melanie Harwood. And you will have the opportunity to work on complex, high-profile transactions for prominent clients in the construction and energy sectors – contributing meaningfully to day to day project management and specialised advisory work.

Our practice

Our market-leading Construction & Energy Practice is rapidly growing in response to increased client demand. We continue to see strong investment in major infrastructure and energy projects, and demand for advice across all stages of development and through to delivery.

Our team brings deep industry expertise across energy and renewables, health, transportation, power, water, public infrastructure, property, and commercial developments, and is increasingly called upon to support new investment in highly complex projects. This enables us to act for diverse clients including property developers, government bodies, contractors, and engineering and architectural consultants. With our strong global presence and expertise, we are also able to seamlessly advise our clients on cross-border matters.

Our team prides itself on its collaborative approach and maintains a strong connectivity across our three offices. This enables our lawyers to gain strong access to mentoring and deeper industry experience at an earlier stage of their career.

About you

You will have:

  • 3 years' PQE in a Construction law practice;
  • relevant experience in a top tier or leading international law firm (preferred);
  • strong technical, drafting and commercial skills; with predominate experience in front-end infrastructure, renewables, solar and wind projects;
  • major projects experience such as including but not limited to PPPs, large-scale developments, wind, solar and BESS projects, etc.;
  • a commitment to high standards and attention to detail;
  • excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • an ability to demonstrate initiative and proactivity;
  • an ability to develop strong relationships with clients and take responsibility for these relationships;
  • business development aptitude, interest and experience;
  • a strong academic background and relevant legal qualifications;
  • an ability to work well in a team, and a willingness to integrate into our national practice with flexibility and confidence to work across multiple jurisdictions.
