The Business Development Manager - Finance & Projects and Financial Institutions, Asia Pacific manages the strategic focus of revenue-driving activities for the Asia Pacific (AP) Finance & Projects Practice Group (FPG), including the Banking & Finance, Financial Services Regulatory, and Energy & Infrastructure sub-groups, and the AP Financial Institutions (FI) Sector Group. This role is instrumental in developing a strategic, market-leading BDMC business-partnering capability that enables the practice groups to win, retain and grow business through consistently high standards, tailored pitches, as well as strong key client relationships, and account management.
Main responsibilities
- Work with the AP Practice Group Chair, FI Sector Lead, sub-group leads and fee earners to proactively plan and deliver a compelling BDMC strategy for the practice group and FI sector across AP offices; aligned to global strategy and tailored to regional market needs and dynamics
- Develop and deliver strong, compelling cross-border pitches and proposals for the FPG Practice Group and FI sector, aiming for a high win rate, working with the Global Client Pursuits team and other BD colleagues, where appropriate. Follow up for pitch de-briefs and track wins / losses. This role has a strong pitching and commercial element
- Drive revenue opportunities for the practice and sector by using products and service lines ensuring that the appropriate clients are being targeted with thorough ROI tracking
- Plan, organize, and deliver high-quality cross-border thought leadership programs and client events to position the Firm as a market leader, targeting carefully selected existing key clients and new clients, with a strong focus on ROI tracking, profitable revenue generation, and increasing brand profile
- Work with PG and sub-group leads, fee earners, and client managers to develop plans which deliver growth to the appropriate clients by using firm-wide best practice BDMC activities which will drive sustainable profitable revenue generation and increase the profile
- Work with key partners, sub-group and working group leads to regularly review activities; produce analyses of activity versus plans, demonstrate value add of activities undertaken; produce and interpret financial/fee reports; monitor expenditure against budget
- Focus on growing PG-specific work from key clients and contribute proactively towards broader client development strategies, identifying growth / cross selling opportunities, and working closely with client managers, where applicable
- Input to Practice Group and FI sector strategy meetings and training (generally held annually) to shape the agenda and ensure a balance between 'technical' and BD content and activities; Brief events team on logistical requirements for the meeting
- Partner closely with specialist functions (Global Client Program, Communications, Global Client Pursuits, Pricing etc.) to ensure our in-region media engagement, proposal preparation, and pitch training for attorneys, pricing options, and alternative fee arrangement strategies align with the requirements of the regional business as well as global best practice
- Work with our marcomms and events teams on production needs including communications templates, marketing material, campaigns, roll-out of branding communications and advertising; manage submissions for awards, league tables, directories; and local event requirements
- Provide guidance to our Communications professionals to drive both internal and external communications for practice development in locations across AP, local and social media to channel the Baker McKenzie brand, identity, and culture through a single, uniform, and strategically consistent communications voice
- Support other regional business priorities and annual meetings, as relevant
Skills and experience
- Extensive experience in business development, client relationship management with an international law firm or other professional/financial services environment
- Educated to degree level and ideally with an additional business qualification / experience focusing on Business Development, Marketing, Communications, Sales or related commercial subjects
- Commerciality and client focus
- Fluent English essential, both written and oral English fluency
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Team spirit essential, ability to work collaboratively across teams

Direct reports: Business Development Coordinator, Finance & Projects AP
Travel Requirements: Occasional travel to AP offices, regional PG meetings / training, and AP Partner Meeting
