Description & Requirements

The Clients & Sectors Manager, Technology will drive targeted business development initiatives that support the growth, retention, and strategic management of the Firm’s Technology (Tech) portfolio accounts.

The role-holder will work directly with lawyers, including Client Service Directors (CSDs), and clients to directly play a part in driving the firm's client growth strategy. The individual will collaborate closely with global, regional, and local BD colleagues to identify and develop opportunities that strengthen the Firm’s most significant client relationships.

The role-holder will also be deeply embedded within internal client teams and directly connected to client contacts to maintain strong awareness of client priorities, business drivers, and preferred ways of working.

Leveraging the Firm’s Alliance of Alliances (“AOA”) Strategy and the Client Program infrastructure, the individual will utilize advanced analytics and technology platforms to enable data‑informed decision‑making and enhance strategic client development.


Main responsibilities:


Sector and client knowledge:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of assigned Tech clients and the broader sector / sub-sectors in which they operate; assess how the Firm is facing the client organization, at what level and in what areas and determine what relationships need to be protected/strengthened/explored further in order to grow profitable revenues


Firm knowledge: 

  • Develop an understanding of the Firm’s broader strategy as well as the Firm’s strengths (market-leading positions, awards), leadership, and key offerings (from high value products to CLEs, Pro Bono, Sustainability and DEI) and build comfort speaking on these topics with clients at networking events, etc.


Client strategies and plans:

  • Proactively drive the implementation of the strategic client plan and associated tactical actions in conjunction with the Client Teams


High-impact engagement formats: 

  • Support initiatives that drive the Firm’s market position – from C-Suite roundtables for top clients to strategic thought leadership initiatives, key sponsorships and events, and client collaborations; leverage the full value-added services available to assigned clients based on client tier


Go-to support for CSDs:

  • Act as the key point of contact for internal queries, and as a conduit between the client and the client team to facilitate introductions, organize / attend client meetings, and manage internal client team communications to improve the global coordination of our largest client teams


Client listening:

  • Conduct client listening / feedback directly with the client covering relationship and post-matter reviews.; drive continuous improvement and resolve relationship or service issues, ensuring a close-loop process to the client; leverage the insights from client listening from clients to identify opportunities to grow relationships


Assess and flag relationship risks: 

  • Continually monitor for and assess relationship risks, which could range from client dissatisfaction to declining fees / new mandates or key departures (either partners or client contacts); flag any perceived relationship risks to the Clients & Sectors Lead, Tech and support resolution of issues where possible


Secondments: 

  • Coordinate with the Clients & Sectors, Growth Enablement team, support secondments for assigned accounts both internally and directly with the client; conduct pre- and post-secondment briefings and ensure that client secondments are strategic and fully maximized for value


Leverage digital platforms: 

  • Maximize value of tools and networks (e.g. LinkedIn, Sales Navigator, Baker CI) and sector events to enhance partner, client team, and sector visibility and generate qualified leads


Contact management: 

  • Build, maintain and utilize client mapping and diagnostic tools to identify growth opportunities and deepen institutional relationships, including senior legal counsel, C-Suite and Board levels


Pitches and tenders: 

  • Assist with global panel pitches and tenders (with Specialist Global Pursuits team) and provide necessary client-centric guidance and input into local office and practice-specific pitches


Cutting-edge technology: 

  • Leverage technology and data analytics to understand how tech clients are engaging with the Firm and uncover client demand


Leverage AI:

  • Maximize use of available AI tools to reduce administrative processes within assigned accounts


Client financial performance: 

Implement metrics-driven approaches to track and improve client financial performance indicators; work with Finance to optimize work-in-progress, accounts receivable, and matter profitability


Budget & ROI management: 

  • Manage any BDMC budget(s) for assigned client(s), ensuring that all business development initiatives are effectively coordinated to extract maximum return on investment; assist the Clients & Sectors Tech team with tracking and analysing ROI on BD initiatives


Client reporting: 

  • Manage all required and proactive reporting to assigned clients


Skills and experience:


  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, communications, or a related field; equivalent work experience is also considered
  • Strong experience in business development and client relationship management within an international law firm or other professional services environment 
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills and a high level of attention to detail 
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to build and manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships across the global organization
  • Savvy in understanding and adapting to the expectations and the needs of different cultures across the Firm
  • Able to adjust and reorganize plans promptly and to manage change effectively
  • Flexible to attend and participate in team calls/meetings in order to accommodate multiple time zones

Travel requirements: Travel as required and with the approval of the Clients & Sectors Lead, Tech and the Clients & Sectors Global Head.

Additional Information

Pay Transparency 


  • This position is bonus eligible and includes benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) based on number of hours worked. 
  • The US base compensation for this position is expected to be $150,000 to $180,000 (annually) if located in an office in the state of California. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
